Theodor Seuss Geisel, (Dr. Seuss), was born on March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts, on Howard Street. He grew up living on Fairfield Street.
Family
He was the only son of Henrietta Seuss Geisel and Theodor Robert Geisel. He had two sisters, Marnie, two years older, and Henrietta 3 ½ years younger. Henrietta died at the age of five because of pneumonia. She coughed and coughed. At the time, there was no cure, and she eventually died.
Free Time
Young Theodor enjoyed reading comic strips, writing humorous poems, and drawing his own cartoons in his spare time. He also spent a lot of his time playing at the Forest Park Zoo because his father was a parks commissioner. He and his sister Marnie were popular teenagers involved in many different activities.
